One of darkest days in the history of American politics.
In an unprecedented raid what many called a politicization of the American judicial system, Federal agents raided Former President Donald Trump's private residence at Mar-a-Lago. Trump made the raid public Monday evening, saying in a lengthy statement that "nothing like this has ever happened to a President of the United States before."
The former President continued in the statement;
"After working and cooperating with the relevant Government agencies, this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate... it is prosecutorial misconduct, the weaponization of the Justice System, and an attack by Radical Left Democrats who desperately don't want me to run for President in 2024." - Donald Trump
According to a FBI source of Fox News, agents from Washington, D.C., who are on the bureau's Evidence Response Team, conducted the raid and notified the Miami Field Office just before. The agents brought a "safe cracker" and cracked a "relatively new" safe in Mar-a-Lago. However, the source told Fox News there was "nothing in it." The agents also grabbed documents and boxes to go through them later.
Florida Governor DeSantis, among many elected officials, spoke out against the raid.
Indeed, such an assault reminds many Americans of what something they thought they would never call America as - a third-world socialist country. It seems not too long ago, political persecution by a regime against political opponents are only heard of in totalitarian states like China.
Are we heading down that path? Where do we, as a nation, go from here?
