Fifty-Three and rising
In what is likely to be the deadliest smuggling incident in American history, 53 undocumented migrants have died after bring trapped inside a sweltering tractor-trailer truck, in the blistering 100-degree Texas heat. Driver and 3 others, including 2 Mexican nationals living in US illegally, Juan Francisco D’Luna-Bilbao and Juan Claudio D’Luna-Mendez, will now face the court.
The Hill reported the pair could face a maximum penalty of 10 years prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted. The driver, now known as Homero Zamorano Jr., was also reportedly arrested and charged with human smuggling.
Officials believe that the truck was abandoned in San Antonio after it had mechanical problems. A city worker discovered the horrific scene on Monday evening after hearing a cry from the trailer.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott placed the blame on the Biden administration's failing immigration policies.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) lashes out on Joe Biden for San Antonio migrant tragedy.
"These deaths are on Biden," Abbott tweeted on Monday evening. "They are a result of his deadly open border policies. They show the deadly consequences of his refusal to enforce the law."
Governor Abbott is not wrong. In the midst of the worst immigrant crisis in American history, our border simply cannot cope with the tsunamis of illegal immigrants flooding the country. Border Patrol officers have been encountering skyrocketed numbers of migrants trying to cross the southern border. In 2022 fiscal year, there’s been 1.07 million encounters in just the first half of the year, with 239,416 illegal immigrants apprehended. Mind you, those numbers do not include the so-called “get-away's”.
Among that staggering statistics, a tragic 692 kids were in Customs and Border Patrol custody each day on average in May. Some 6% of all encounters on the Southern border that same month were with unaccompanied children.
Fiscal Year 2022 Nationwide Encounters
A “summer of deaths” has already been warned by officials in border states, with endless waves of migrants expect to hit the American border.
The unprecedented rise in undocumented migrants have also directly resulted in property damage, stolen vehicles, gun violence, and other issues that have affected border communities, many who are desolate and sparse in population. On top of that, smugglers and human traffickers have been able to usher in not only humans, but also millions of lethal doses of fentanyl which took nearly 79,000 American lives between 2020-2021 alone.
Counties across Texas have declared their cities and towns are being overrun by migrants. “We’re being invaded,” were words from Kinney Country, Texas, Judge Tully Shahan. That sentiment was echoed by officials in three other Texas counties. The officials are hoping that would put pressure on Gov. Abbott to declare an “invasion” of the state by illegal immigrants. By claiming an actual invasion, the state of Texas can trigger the state’s right to self-defense in the face of inadequate federal enforcement, under the Constitutional protection in Article IV, Section 4, the so-called Guarantee Clause.
The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion.”
Pressure has also started to mount on Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, whose short tenure has been nothing short of disastrous. His and this administration to enforce immigration law has emboldened migrants like never before. This administration’s systemic tear down of border security, including removing judges appointed in the Trump era, as well as repealing the indispensable Stay-In-Mexico Migrant Protection Protocol, has left Americans and American cities in vulnerable positions.
Judge Matthew O'Brien tells 'The Ingraham Angle' on Jun 22, 2022 that the White House is weaponizing immigration courts and actively releasing undocumented migrants into America
Rep. Tony Gonzales, a Republican who represents Texas, did not pull punches.
The lawmaker tweeted that, referencing Alejandro Mayorkas, who was nominated by Biden to lead the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security.
Joe Biden and his administration does not care to enforce our laws, and everyone else is paying a heavy, heavy price.
Such blatant disregard on laws and the well-being of Americans is not going unnoticed. In recent polls, the approval rate of the Biden Administration’s immigration policy is only 32%, with a majority of Latinos who don’t agree with the administration’s attempt to dispense Title 42 and Stay In Mexico Policy.
Texas countries are calling for Gov. Greg Abbott to declare invasion to protect Texans' lives
We pray for those who have lost their lives and the families who they have left behind. Will this slow down? Not till we do something about our border.
